Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Showtime – Endurance Test!

Revlon Showtime!

Revlon Showtime!

Of the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy line that is currently available, only one shade (other than Queen of Hearts) caught my eye, and it was the blueish, purpleish flaky glitter containing Showtime! I actually got the top coat intended to use with this line as it was all on sale, and I really wanted to see how it held up, being a long time fan of Revlon nail products.

Here are some swatches in various lighting. I did use 2 coats of the top coat as I found the flaky glitter did leave just the slightest bit of texture, which although interesting, wasn’t what I was going for this time around. I’ve heard mixed info about this product requiring a bit of UV to completely set (just from daylight, not from a lamp.) I didn’t go out of my way to bake them in sunlight, just a few brief minutes while taking pictures, and it seemed to set up well. Swatches!

And on to the wear test! I am not exactly easy on my hands, and the photos taken from this week would include time working in a shipping warehouse packing orders, and in an office shuffling a thousand papers. This first picture is at the end of day 3.

Nothing but minor tip wear. Wow. This is already a solid passing grade to me. Very impressed.¬† Now this week was pretty busy, and I didn’t manage to remember to take photos again until I was ready to take it off, after a full week. Here is what it looks like after an entire 7 days wear!

revlon_showtime_swatch_4

So more pronounced tip wear and minor chipping, and one pronounced chip at the top of the middle finger, which is an unusual place for me to chip so I guess it got caught on something. The thumb nail doesn’t even have ANY visible tip wear! Pretty amazing ūüôā

Final verdict – if this line has a shade you really like, get it. Get the top coat too. I waited for a great sale to grab mine, but with performance like this, I’d understand if ya didn’t! Will get more to add to the collection of I find another interesting shade. I should also do a wear test for Queen of Hearts now that I have the top coat!

Enjoy your weekend! Happy daylight savings!

Beautiful Day Blue and Gold NOTD, Revlon Colorstay Blue Slate Swatch & Review

Revlon Blue Slate, Essie As Gold As It Gets

Revlon Blue Slate, Essie As Gold As It Gets

More blue nails! Surprise! This Revlon polish is one that I have had a long while, and is a favourite, so of course it’s discontinued. Revlon Colorstay Blue Slate is a perfect, slightly greyed out medium blue. The shade is neutral enough you can get away wearing it in more circumstances than other shades of blue. I even once wore this to an interview where the shade was an exact match to their company logo. I’m certain no one noticed.

Although I could get away with one coat, two looks more perfect and even. The blue is a perfect creme formula, smooth, even, and fast drying. I painted on two coats of the Blue Slate, and then a layer of the lovely and versatile Essie As Gold As It Gets. Some pictures in different lights!

These two together reminded me of blue, sunshiney skies. The formulas together hold up well for a couple of days without chips. If you can find this shade anywhere, I really recommend it as a staple in your nail wardrobe if you like blue as much as I do!

Have a great week!

Revlon Colorstay Provence NOTD Swatch & Review!

Revlon Provence

Revlon Provence

I used the sky as my backdrop for this bottle of polish, what an amazing colour! Was a gorgeous day so I had to take advantage of it. It did make the shade in the bottle look greyer than it actually is, however.

The first of the newer incarnation of Revlon Colorstay nail enamels (my favourite) that I purchased was this one, Provence. It wasn’t recently, it was some time ago as it is sadly now discontinued. Thankfully it is still usable. Now that I think of it, I still have some of the first versions of the Revlon Colorstay polishes that are still usable, remember when they came in a duo pack with a topcoat? Those. I have a bunch of those still. How long have I had these, 10 years? 15?

Revlon Provence is a pale, greyed out lavender shade. It has just enough purple in it to see that there’s a colour there, but still subtle and neutral enough for even the most conservative of venues. It is sheer and streaky in one coat, but evens out nicely with two coats. Dry time is a little longer with this one as it stays tacky for a while. Swatches below are with no topcoat. Still pretty shiny without it, I think.

And I can’t help myself with topcoats, I added a layer of Essie As Gold As It Gets and then another of Revlon Colorstay Calla Lily for a bit of faint shimmer to add some depth and interest.

It’s more of a spring shade rather than summer, but I think it’s something nice and light for the super hot days we’ve been having here lately!

Enjoy your week!

Revlon Colorstay Jungle NOTD, Swatch & Review!

Revlon ColorStay Jungle

Revlon ColorStay Jungle

Today’s NOTD is with my favourite all time nail polish brand, Revlon Colorstay. Jungle is a perfectly named deep, warm, earthy, slightly dusty forest green. The formula is creme, no hint of sparkle and is perfect in two coats. It can tend to look black, or off-black in certain lights but that doesn’t bother me. I love dark, moody nail shades!

Two coats and a top coat shown in various lighting.

This held up really well, no chips for 3 days which is great for me. This would be great for nail art (flowers or plant stuff). OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow and NYC Flat Iron Green would be pretty close dupes! I really like this. The intensity of a black with a warmer, more elegant feel. I would also like this with a sparkly gold or silver top coat, or maybe the unusually sparkly lime green Nicole Brilliant Idea might would work well!

Enjoy your day!

Revlon Colorstay Spanish Moss Earth Day NOTD

Revlon Colorstay Spanish Moss

Revlon Colorstay Spanish Moss

Hi! I had a few minutes tonight so I thought I’d share what I¬†slapped on my nails for Earth Day yesterday! Any excuse to paint the nails, really. I chose the¬†decidedly earthy toned Revlon Colorstay Spanish Moss. I prefer more unusual shades on my nails. It’s just nail polish after all, I’ve used temporary hair dyes that were more permanent.

Revlon Spanish Moss is an muted olivey-grey cool leaning army green. I thought for sure it was just a flat cream formula with no glitter but the pictures I took told me otherwise! There is¬†tiny, almost impossible to see gold and green micro glitter in this! You can see it better in the bottle (and in the pictures) than on my nail. Spanish Moss is neutral enough to not call too much attention to itself, yet still has a surprisingly modern edgy appeal. The formula was amazing, I could have gotten away with 1 coat, and it dried pretty quickly. The pictures have 2 coats. Still looks great on day 2. I will likely get another day out if this before i get chips as I’m pretty rough on my hands. Regular, non long wear polishes don’t even last a day. This formula is big 3 free.

I like this polish far more than I thought I would! Anyone do anything especially earthy for Earth Day? I prepped for yet another interview and went to bed early! Have a great week!

L’Oreal Greycian Goddess, Revlon Calla Lily, Feather Nail Manicure!

Revlon Greycian Goddess, Calla Lily

L’Oreal¬†Greycian Goddess, Calla Lily

I was trapped in the house all day today as I had to be present for the landlord and his perpetual renovation attempts (it’s not going well). I needed something to busy myself that I wouldn’t mind being constantly interrupted from, so I took the opportunity to try out a manicure I’ve been meaning to for a while.

Products used:

L’Oreal Nail Color in Greycian Goddess 560 (not currently on their Canadian website, possibly discontinued). I received this polish with a lipstick free as some sort of promotion from a Well.ca ages ago. A medium intensity blue leaning grey shade. The creme formula is smooth, covers well in 2 coats and dries reasonably quickly. I love grey nail polishes.

Revlon ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel in Calla Lily. Definitely discontinued. Snatched it up for $1 at my local Dollarama! This shade is beautiful. It is a very sheer milky translucent glitter that is clear enough to use as a top coat. Has lovely gold and pink micro glitter.

Revlon ColorStay clear topcoat. Still available at mass retailers.

L'oreal Greycian Goddess, Feather

L’oreal Greycian Goddess, Feather

For the feather, I painted on 2 thin coats of L’Oreal Greycian Goddess and applied a feather previously cut to size and gently tapped it down while the polish was still tacky. Applied top coat. That’s it. Far easier than anticipated, I cant wait to try it again!

When I was done painting the rest of the nails grey, I decided it needed more (I didn’t have enough feathers for all nails) so I decided to slap on the Revlon Calla Lily. Overall I’m liking the effect!

Ever tried feather nails? I can’t believe I waited so long to try! Have a great weekend!
