A 2 for 1 swatch and review for you today! This little duo has a concealer from Estee Lauder’s famous Double Wear line and a shimmery neutral lip gloss. Perfect for travel, and as you can see I like it so much that it’s already well worn from living inside the small makeup bag in my purse! This item was a gift with purchase (with someone else’s purchase) that was passed along to me as the original recipient couldn’t wear these shades as they were too light for her. I can’t find this item as something that can be purchased as the duo, which is too bad, I’d recommend it if it existed. You can buy them separately, however.
Starting with the concealer. This duo includes Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Flawless Wear Concealer in Light/Medium. The full size of this in Canada sells for $24-28 depending on your source. This travel size includes a decent amount of product at 4.7ml. The full size has about 7.4ml, from the limited info I can find. The website says the formula contains emollients and minerals (I think they all contain minerals of some sort as they are pigments but that’s neither here nor there). I wish I could find an ingredient listing somewhere – anywhere – so that I am better able to assess this product for you, but they seem to have kept that information hidden from the public. I have emailed them for a full listing and will update if I receive a reply (not counting on it). Update: 2 weeks later I got a response with an ingredient list, I will post it at the bottom of this entry.
There is another reason I was really interested in reviewing the full ingredient listing. This concealer smells like the old formula of the Revlon ColorStay foundation before they screwed up a great thing some time over a year ago. If you didn’t know, Revlon changed the formula and didn’t mention anything about it, not in press nor on the label. They removed the SPF (why?! senseless!) and made a transfer resistant formula one that slips around and gets all over the place while providing sub par coverage with a crappy finish. But that’s for another post. The point is I really liked that old formula, and I really like this formula in the concealer, and they have a very unique and similar smell. I’d also like to review the ingredients because I can catch the slightest whiff of alcohol in this, and that would change my opinion. I don’t want to put products containing alcohol around my eye.
That being said, the formula for this concealer is one of the best I’ve tried in a long time. It is just the right amount of coverage in a light, blendable formula. It sets very quickly to a realistic, skin like, matte but not too matte finish. This particular shade is perfect for my dark under eye circles, which are pretty tough to cover for any length of time. This one holds up well for several hours, doesn’t crease, and performs better than anything else I have right now. If it weren’t so pricey, I would definitely buy this. Some swatches showing the consistency and then the level of coverage even after being blended out.
Next up, the lip gloss! This duo includes Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss in Magnificent Mauve 06. This travel size is 4.5ml, can’t find info on the full size, which goes for $26 (yikes). Apparently this gloss has won a couple of awards including Allure’s Best of Beauty Awards for the lip gloss category in 2010, and Best Lip Product Finalist for the 2011 CEW Awards. I can see why. The formula manages to stay on my lips far longer than any other gloss I own, without actually feeling sticky, and is still moisturizing. I have no idea how they made that magically happen, but I’m glad they did.
This particular shade is a shimmer, and is full of silver, pink and gold micro glitter in a sheer pale mauvey pink base. It’s pretty, but if you really hate glitter this might not be for you. This also has a faint fruity sweet smell which fades quickly. I will gladly use it until it’s gone, but I wouldn’t buy this. If you can rationalize spending $26 on a lip gloss, this one would be a good choice. Perhaps as a gift with purchase! The swatches below show it before and after sheering it out. It looks more like the lower swatch on lips as it is very sheer and subtle once on. Swatches are on NC20/25 skin.
Glad to have this super handy little duo to carry in my purse! I sure will miss it when it’s gone, the concealer especially!
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
