Nars Cruella VS NYX Snow White Dupe Post!

Nyx Snow White, Nars Cruella

Nyx Snow White, Nars Cruella

Makeupalley’s Facebook page often shares possible dupes on the weekends. Today, one of them was regarding Nars Cruella and Nyx Snow White being possible dupes. Seeing as I had both, I decided to do some swatches for you! I added one to their post as well.

Here we go! Prices at the time of this post. Nyx Snow White goes for a reasonable $6.99 at London Drugs. Nars Cruella goes for a whopping $30 at Sephora. Yikes. Well they do look pretty similar in tube.

And also look pretty close in swatches! Photos taken in indoor light by a window, with flash, and then outdoors on an overcast day.

Nyx Snow White is actually more intensely pigmented, perhaps just a smidge deeper, and has a creme finish as opposed to Nars Cruella’s velvet matte finish. Now, my skintone can make any shade pull warmer than it is, therefore both of these almost look like they have a brown base, but they do not! They both look very pink once worn/wiped off, and it’s a clearly blue based pink. The flash also really brings out the pink. I wish that translated to my lips too. 😦

Having both of these too will likely last me a lifetime of super intense red lipping, but if I had to purchase one, of course I’d go for the cheaper Nyx. I did buy it in the first place after all, but the Nars Cruella as part of a Sephora birthday bonus they had at the time. I usually just use Snow White as a blush, just a tiny tiny dab on my finger blended out gently as a cream blush looks nice.

Revlon Colorstay Rich Raspberry

Another post to continue documenting my ongoing passionate affection for purples and Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel, today’s nails of the day is Revlon Colorstay Rich Raspberry! This shade could easily be included in my theme posts of Pantone’s Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid as well!

Revlon Colorstay Rich Raspberry is a bright, intense, sparkle free purple leaning fuchsia. The formula is like a cross between a jelly and a cream and applies smoothly and beautifully. If you had steady hands you could get away with 1 coat, but I need 2 to make it even. The brush is the wider, flatter type which i find suits my nails well. The swatches shown on nail are in shade, then sun and are the just Rich Raspberry alone, no base or top coat. Sorry about the rough cuticles, I’m healing up from a hangnail issue and have been doing some rough work around the house this weekend.

This shade is reputed to be a dupe for OPI Dim Sum Plum. I don’t own that one  so I can’t compare side by side, however I did study several pictures, and it appears to my eye that Dim Sum Plum is just the slightest bit dustier, which brings me to the picture below…

NYC Color in a Minute in MOMA is also, to my eye, just the slightest bit dustier. Technically this would make the NYC MOMA a better dupe for OPI Dim Sum Plum than the Revlon Rich Raspberry, but I still felt it was worth sharing. Another purple Revlon Colorstay/NYC nailpolish dupe I recently reviewed can be found here!

Other notable polishes this reminds me of include Our Fuchsia’s Looking Bright from Nicole for OPI (which is a bit pinker), OPI Florentine Fuchsia (which is a bit redder), OPI Ate Berries in the Canaries (unbelievably adorable name!) and OPI Kinky in Helsinki (same intensity, but with added beautiful shimmer).

And apparently because I can’t help myself, I ended up slapping a coat of Essie As Gold As It Gets on top!

Far and away my favourite nail polish formula is Revlon’s ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel, in it’s current and even former incarnations. Been waiting for a sale (half price woohoo!) to finally grab the one I am reviewing today, Revlon Bold Sangria! I’ve gone on before about how I prefer my nail colours to be of the deeper, darker, moody and broody variety and this one manages to be all these things while remaining elegant and feminine.

Revlon Bold Sangria is a deep, dark purpley plum. I love this contrast against my pale skin (NC20/25 for reference). The formula is smooth, takes 2 coats for an even finish, and didn’t seem to take too long to dry to me. The brush is of the wider, flatter variety which I do prefer for my nails. The bottle is the standard simple, utilitarian and tidy round bottle and brush handle.

Here it is on my nails in shade from sun!

Now when I looked up this product, I was made aware that Revlon Bold Sangria has been said to be a dupe for OPI Siberian Nights. I don’t have this one to compare, but online the pictures do look mighty close to me, so if you are looking for a less expensive or more available (in some areas) drugstore dupe, this one appears to make the cut. If you are looking for an even thriftier drugstore option, might I recommend NYC Color In A Minute in Battery Park Purple! I completely forgot I had this one, and want to show you how similar they are!

Close right? Those colours are pretty well dead on to my eye. Of course there will be a difference in formula, the NYC ones do in fact dry very quickly, which I love for a super speedy manicure that will last a day or two, but for longer lasting more reliable wear, the Colorstay is the way to go. NYC polishes retail for about $2-3 tops.

Revlon ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel retails for around $10 Canadian, contain 0.4Oz/11.7mLs, and are big 3 free.
