Autumn Leaves – A Neutral NOTD!

autumn_nails

Hi! Today’s rushed NOTD I went with a neutral palette of beige and bronze for some leaf stamp art. I used Sally Hansen Bare It All, Essie Summit of Style and Avon Glimmer. I had some trouble with Bare It All. The brush held on to a lot of product and the formula was thin, making application a bit tricky. Good thing it’s a forgiving nude. I also had some trouble capturing the leaf stamps in a photograph due to the pale tones. I’d wait for sun for a better shot, but there’s none in the forecast so these will have to do! Overall it’s a bit too subdued for my taste even with the glitter. I’ll mix it up with the occasional neutral like this but I love my darks and brights! Some pics in crappy lighting because that’s all we get here in Vancouver now! On the upside (?) I guess I’ve accidentally found my mannequin hands nude!

Essie Shearling Darling, Sally Hansen Go For Gold NOTD!

Pushing autumn a little bit with this one, but I love darker reddish shades no matter what time of year. Today’s stamping experiment is with Sally Hansen Go For Gold atop Essie Shearling Darling.

Shearling Darling applied nicely, and I like it a bit more than Essie Carry On which is a pretty close counterpart (but not a dupe.) I like using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri for stamping, however one caveat with Go For Gold – when you apply a top coat – or at least when I apply my HG top coat NYC Grand Central – it fades the gold considerably. So to get around this, as I still like the effect of the gold, is to put it over top the top coat. Not ideal, but it’s an ok workaround.¬† Go For Gold is a paler gold, it even looks like it’s got some silver shimmer to it. Shearling Darling is a brown leaning autumnal burgundy. I used a floral stamp print, I think they might be poppies.

I’d like to try this or a similar combination again soon with one of the leaf/leaves stamp plates I have, think it would be nice for fall.

Autumnal Nail Dots NOTD

fall_dots1

Hello my long lost blog!

Finally found a few moments! How about some nail posts?

I like wearing dark shades in fall, and have been wearing a long series of near black burgundies and blues. Today I switched it up with a blackened teal, and threw some crazy dots on. It’s a little busy for my taste and I’m not sure how long I will be able to stand it on, but it’s fun.

I used Nicole Khloe had a Little Lam Lam, Revlon Fall Mood and Revlon Spanish Moss reviewed on their own as linked.

How’s everyone’s fall? It’s getting super chilly here in the mornings, but by mid-day it’s been lovely, sunny and warm!

Revlon Naughty NOTD, Swatch & Review!

Revlon Naughty

Revlon Naughty

An appropriately grey day here, just right for this stormy purple! Revlon Naughty is not this shade’s first incarnation. ¬†This was first released long ago as a limited edition called Purplex! It was reintroduced later as Revlon Naughty, and I’m glad it was! As far as I can tell it is not yet discontinued. This one is also known as a perfect dupe for Chanel Paradoxal!

Revlon Naughty is a perfect blend of grey and purple, with a subtle pinkish shimmer throughout. It looks great in 2 coats and was shiny enough to not need a top coat for the swatches I took for this post. It wore well for a few days, with more tip wear than chips, which was nice. When it was time to take it off for a fresh manicure, I ended up painting it right back on! Good way to tell you really like a shade! This of course does lean very cool toned so it may not look right on everyone. I also find there is enough grey in it for it to behave as a neutral, at least in my wardrobe.

Some swatches in various lighting. Two coats no top coat.

I really like this one! Great for fall (or any other time, really!)

Enjoy your weekend!
