Blue Ombre Nails, Gold Stamp NOTD

Hi! I wanted to do something with a cool, refreshing feel. Today’s nails is a blue ombre (some call it gradient) mani with a gold stamp. From darkest to lightest I used Avon Gel Finish Inked Up, OPI Give Me Space, Love & Beauty Blue Print, Sinful COlors Sail La Vie,CND Vinylux Creekside and Sinful Colors Gold Medal for stamping.

Shot showing before stamp.

OPI The Glittering Night Swatches

OPI The Glittering Night

OPI The Glittering Night

I found this little surprise at the Dollarama. $3! Dark, glittery, all the way up my alley. A quick search online shows me that this is a dupe/rename for the Nicki Minaj OPI shade Metallic 4 Life. I like it either way. The Glittering Night is a heaping ton of multi-sized silver glitter in a black jelly base. Not completely unique, but not a bad find for $3 either! I wasn’t satisfied just swatching it on it’s own, so here it is over a few different shades.

From thumb to pinky: one coat OPI TGN over black, one coat over purple, one coat over blue, 2 coats OPI TGN alone, and one coat over a dark red. I don’t see myself having the patience to layer it 3-4 times and then removing that much glitter polish. I like the effect over a coat of black, and the dark red. Or maybe I’d use this over a peel off base coat. It also reminds me of a more subtle version of this nail look I did a few summers ago.

Enjoy your day!

Louboutin Nails – First Attempt – NOTD!

louboutin

My nails have finally gotten long enough for me to try this Louboutin nails thing, where the underside is coated in red, like the shoes. I thought for sure it would be really awkward and messy without being worth it. Glad to say I was wrong!

I used Sinful Colors No Text Red (reviewed here) and my favourite black, OPI Black Onyx, although you could use whatever colour you want on top providing it is opaque enough to cover the red underneath.

I did the red first, because knowing me I’d get it all over the perfectly applied polish on top if I didn’t and would have to start over. If you have a quick dry red, I’d recommend that. DO THE THUMB LAST. I used my thumbnail to push the skin of my finger pads away from the underside of the nail for a bit of a cleaner application of red. Use very little polish on the brush to help keep it from getting everywhere. As dry as possible while still able to paint. At this point, it will look like you just fought and won a bloody battle, if looking at them from the unpainted top. If squeamish, don’t look. Quickly paint on your chosen nail colour on top as usual.

Completed look! I can see why people do this. It makes for a fairly finished, sophisticated look! Now I won’t feel finished until I paint the undersides. Photos below with a bit of bling.

March Minimalist NOTD!

WP_20150301_018[1]

Hi! March is here and the days are beautiful here in the Vancouver area in the middle of the day lately, although early mornings and nights are still frozen. Makes it hard to get dressed for the weather in the morning! I have no place complaining knowing what the rest of Canada is like right now, hope you guys are ok over there!

I managed to find a small scrap of time to do my nails this week, and even more astoundingly, find a second scrap of time to post it! These are some very minimalist nails with Cover Girl Constant Candy and one single simple dot of  OPI Black Onyx. It was inspired by a black polka dot ribbon off a perfume bottle, modeled below for extra polka-dotty effect!

Has spring or better weather hit any of you guys yet?

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Grey Gradient NOTD!

Greydient Greys!

Greydient Greys!

I talked myself out of naming this post “Graydient” NOTD. I’m a bit surprised I’ve never tried this before! Used for today’s nails: OPI Black Onyx, Yves Rocher mini Grix Precieux, L’Oreal Greycian Goddess, Rimmel 60 Seconds Grey Matter and a mini Markwins white polish intended for french manicures. The two mid greys looked closer in shade on camera than they did in person, and I had to use flash to bring out the dark grey in the Yves Rocher shade which dried considerably darker than the bottle colour, but overall I did like the effect! Photos in different lights!

I made it a day before putting on a coat of Revlon Graffiti top coat, I like this too! I think I will be doing more of these!

Heavy Metal Glitter NOTD!

OPI_Black_Onyx_LA_Colors_Sparkling_DiamondsI’ve had a really weird week. I wanted something shiny, but dark and dramatic to pick me up and decided this simple duo would do the trick! For this look I used OPI Black Onyx (had this for probably 7 years and it’s still good) and a $2 bottle of LA Colors Sparkling Diamonds.

First up, one quick coat of OPI Black Onyx!

Then 2-3 coats of LA Colors Sparkling Diamonds!

I love this. It’s so simple but so effective, and it was exactly what I was looking for. It’s far more sparkly in person, it’s amazing. For $2 I’m going to have to get some backups of that sparkly coat. I’d like to try it over a silver for a full on mirrored/chrome look. I can’t decide what else I’d like to try it over! Maybe everything?!
