Autumnal Nail Dots NOTD

fall_dots1

Hello my long lost blog!

Finally found a few moments! How about some nail posts?

I like wearing dark shades in fall, and have been wearing a long series of near black burgundies and blues. Today I switched it up with a blackened teal, and threw some crazy dots on. It’s a little busy for my taste and I’m not sure how long I will be able to stand it on, but it’s fun.

I used Nicole Khloe had a Little Lam Lam, Revlon Fall Mood and Revlon Spanish Moss reviewed on their own as linked.

How’s everyone’s fall? It’s getting super chilly here in the mornings, but by mid-day it’s been lovely, sunny and warm!

Nicole by OPI Sea-ing Is Believing NOTD Swatch & Review!

Nicole by OPI Sea-ing Is Believing

Nicole by OPI Sea-ing Is Believing

Not too long ago I found this polish in a set of 3 offered by Nicole as a package deal. It included Sea-ing Is Believing, a perky multi-coloured sparkle coat and a top coat which I panned, viciously, in this post. NOPI Sea-ing Is Believing is a tealy blue-green that reminds me of the ocean, and is laced with a fine golden green metallic shimmer throughout. I was worried this super fine shimmer would contribute to visible brush strokes on the nail, but it actually turned out better than anticipated. The shimmer looks better in the bottle, and I find it doesn’t translate to the finished look as much as I would have liked although it is still a pretty shade. I would consider it to be more of a metallic frost rather than a duochrome.

Two coats, which applied perfectly, with NYC top coat in various lighting!

Something else interesting about this shade; it is an exact, not the slightest bit different, bang on dupe for NOPI’s Candid Cameron from the Modern Family line. So similar, in fact, that I assume that they just repackaged it for the 3 set it came in. I can only speculate as to why they did this, but if you missed and wanted Candid Cameron, try looking for this one, as it’s a perfect dupe!

Enjoy your week!

Nicole by OPI Spring Set Find!

Nicole by OPI Spring Set

Nicole by OPI Spring Set

Hi! I found this cute little set on clearance at the local drugstore recently, presumably as it is no longer spring, for all of $7.99! Considering Nicole polishes run $11 each here (the little $19.99 tag does say a $33 value for the three) I thought it was a pretty good deal to get the three for $7.99. I was also in the market for a quality top coat, and one was included so I will give that a go. I’ve seen mixed reviews on it, mostly negative, but I will review it honestly at some point.

The set included a Nicole by OPI Top Coat Plus, a beautiful oceany blue green full of golden micro shimmer called Sea-ing Is Believing, and Don’t Say It, Spout It, which is just crammed full of multi-coloured, different sized hexagonal sparkle glitter, very fun looking!

A close up of Sea-ing Is Believing, trying to show the pretty golden shimmer swirled through it here. This one looks like a close dupe of a couple other Nicole by OPI shades which I will get into when I swatch it in an upcoming post.

And a close up of Don’t Say It, Sprout It to show the multi-coloured hexagonal glitter. This one reminds me of a few others as well, which I will also get into in an upcoming swatch post.

Didn’t bother with a close up of the clear coat. Looking forward to playing with these, the sparkle in particular looks very fun!

Dark Teal NOTD with Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam Swatch & Review!

Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam

Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam

I am now completely reassured that I am over the whole punny polish name bit so many brands have going. However it doesn’t look like they plan on stopping with them any time soon, so I will work around it. For the remainder of the post, I will call this one KHALLL instead, with the exception of photo captions. I am officially on bad name strike!

This gorgeous dark teal shade is from a “Kolor Kollection” whose full name I will never, ever use here due to media over saturation. Not to mention Khloe no longer has a “Little Lam Lam”, she has a skeevy, philanderer (birth) named Karim Kharbouch – well no wonder they picked him for her new beau, the name fits their brand image, which is what matters right? These people… But they did put their name on a reasonably decent nail polish line, and this is my favourite of that line!

KHALLL is a darkened teal creme. The formula is fantastic. I find this to be almost opaque with one coat but it does need 2 to be perfect. It applies smoothly, isn’t sheer or streaky. Even the dry time is is surprisingly fast! The teal shade definitely leans a more foresty green, with a tiny bit of grey. It remains cool toned enough to not look awful on my skin. I am really liking this shade! A couple swatches. Had some trouble with this one and lens flare, it’s so shiny!

The collection is starting to hit the discounters/clearance now. I’m not sure if they are phasing it out  due to lack of interest in the “K” brand or if it naturally ran it’s course but I’m glad to have found it for $2. If you were to only get one from this line, I’d recommend this one (if you like dark shades). This is also a pretty bang on dupe for MAC Deep Sea. Wonder if I can make it through the day without adding a shimmery topcoat!

EDIT: I made it a day. I then added a bit of Essence Miss Universe to the tips for a tone on tone french mani look. Close up of thumb:

NYC West Village & Nicole Imagine If NOTD!

NYC West Village, Nicole Imagine If

NYC West Village, Nicole Imagine If

Continuing my ongoing mission seeking a suitable Essie Starry Starry Nights replacement, I present to you another blue and sparkly NOTD! Today I’m using NYC West Village and Nicole by OPI Imagine If. NYC Color in a New York Minute is a great line of polishes, and I’m sad that they have discontinued a lot of my favourites, but I think this one is still in production. EDIT: Nope, it’s gorgeous, so obviously it’s discontinued. It’s too sheer, terrible East Village counterpart is still in production however.  >.<

NYC West Village is a deep, inky blue with a bit of a flash of purple sparkle. It has a lovely intensity and is perfect at 2 coats, and dries very quickly! If this was still sold in my area, I’d buy a backup, but my local store sadly stopped carrying the whole NYC line. Shown below is 2 quick coats, no top coat (yet!) You can see the tiny bit of purple sparkle in this pic.

On top of this already pretty polish, I have added a coat of Nicole by OPI Imagine If, a sparkly top coat that looks silvery in the bottle but is actually tiny multi-coloured micro glitter! Some more pictures!

I really liked how this turned out. I liked it so much, I did the same look to my toes! My best dark blue/sparkle combo so far, I think!

Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam NOTD Swatch & Review!

Nicole by OPI It's All About the Glam

Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam

Hi! I realized I had used this polish for a few experiments with my nail dotter but never bothered trying it on alone. So, today’s NOTD is Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam.

This NOPI shade is a creamy off white. It is full of a nice amount of white and green-blue micro glitter which makes sure the finish isn’t flat. I liked how it provided the bright crispness of white without being glaring like a flat white might look, like what your standard french manicure tip polish might look like. Unfortunately, it took 4 coats to get it to the full opacity shown in the swatches below, but at least it didn’t seem to take too long to dry. If you are more talented and have steadier hands than myself, you could probably get away with 3 coats. Here’s a couple pictures in different light.

I’d imagine this looking particularly good with a tan (I can’t/won’t tan, oh well) or may as an accent nail with the rest of the hand being a bright coral or maybe a turquoise. Although this could be such a summery colour, on the nail it reminds me of snow drifts with a fine thin layer of frost on top, making it sparkle in the sun. Not many shades can evoke equal parts summer and winter like that!

Essie Sunday Funday NOTD Swatch & Review, Dotting Experiment!

Essie Sunday Funday

Essie Sunday Funday

Today’s nails of the day is Essie Sunday Funday! It’s a bright, pretty, orange leaning coral with a light amount of white shimmery flecks throughout. Perfect for a glisteny, juicy, summery look! It’s gorgeous, I have no idea how it stayed on the shelves long enough to make it to the discounter I found it at. It applied beautifully and drying time seemed pretty good! I wanted to try out my new dotting tool on top of this shade, and here is 2 coats swatched, no topcoat!

Essie Sunday Funday

Essie Sunday Funday

For the dotting, I used NYC Park Ave, Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam, NYC Water Street Blue (stunning on it’s own as well, but stains) and of course that’s Sunday Funday on the far right.

Final result close up on thumb. I also did my ring finger, I think more might have been overkill. I think I might need a more opaque white, or a bigger dotter as I had some issues making the white dot even but overall I do like the look! I’m really enjoying this little tool 🙂

Nicole by OPI Sky’s the Limit NOTD Swatch and Review!

Nicole Sky's The Limit

Nicole Sky’s The Limit

I love blue polishes. Today’s NOTD is a crisp, refreshing and cheerful medium blue with micro silver and blue glitter. I was concerned that tiny glitter might translate to something frosty or pearlized on the nail, but to my relief it didn’t. From far away, the result looked almost like a slightly glowy metallic effect, and close up the glitter was thankfully still evident enough to not look like a frost.

The formula was smooth, and seemed to dry fast enough. The only issue was that it was fairly sheer. The swatches here are at least three coats and in some pictures it’s four. I like that the end result had a luminescent sheen from all the coats, and the cool shimmery blue did look nice against my skin tone. Some swatches in different lights.

This is a nice blue, but the need for four coats for opacity is a bit more high maintenance than my liking. It does, however, seem to dry quickly for four coats. I’d still recommend a speed dry fluid coat or spray just to be sure, if you have one. I don’t think I will reach for this quite as often as some of my other blues. What I do think this polish will excel at would be for layering over other polishes for a flash of blue, and not necessarily over a blue of similar shade, although that would certainly work. I just tried this one on a bit of paper over a lavender, a dark purple, a taupe and even over a very deep forest green and the results were pretty and interesting, perhaps unique enough for a future NOTD.

Super Fast & Bright Summery NOTD with NYC Time Square

NYC In a New York Color Minute Times Square

NYC In a New York Color Minute Times Square

Today’s NOTD is with an old favourite! I’ve had NYC In a New York Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish for a couple of years now and I would absolutely rebuy if I could find it anywhere locally. NYC polishes are never more than $2-3, (says $1.99 on their US website, by I’m in Canada), usually have great formulas and absolutely do dry very quickly. Thankfully according to NYC’s website this one isn’t discontinued yet.

NYC Times Square (224) is a not quite tomato red creme formula, with pinky coral undertones. It is bright, vibrant and gorgeous. This shade works equally as well as a pop of colour against pale porcelain skin, or tanned skin. This would look great on anyone! Two coats went on smoothly, dried quickly, and didn’t need a top coat. This one lasts a couple of days on me with no chips, and I chip nails very easily.

For an accent nail, I put on a quick layer of the super sparkly Nicole by OPI Twist of Fate I just reviewed here. There was a comment on that post regarding the awkward to store shape of the Nicole by OPI bottles, and I agree, they are a pain. I gave up on trying to force these bottles to play nice with the rest of mine in their storage box, and this was my “solution”..

Nicole by OPI Storage Solution

Nicole by OPI Storage Solution

This whole look barely even took 10 minutes. Love this, it’s quite a bright and summery pick me up! If you haven’t tried this line and have it available near you, try it! I’ve only ever been disappointed in one of their shades (East Village) because it was pretty sheer. All the others I’ve tried have been great, and I have well over a dozen!

Anyone else have a more creative Nicole by OPI storage solution? I’d be happy to hear it!

Enjoy your weekend!

Nicole by OPI Imagine If NOTD Swatch & Review!

Nicole by OPI Imagine If

Nicole by OPI Imagine If

Beautiful, busy day today! It’s late but I wanted to quickly share this sparkly polish that I grabbed along with yesterday’s NOTD, Nicole by OPI Twist of Fate, intending for both of them to be used as top coats. At first glance this one seems to be a simple silver microglitter, but a closer look shows its not only full of silver but red, gold, blue and green holographic microglitter hiding in there as well!

Nicole by OPI Imagine If, somewhat more easily than Twist of Fate, can actually be used as a top coat yet can be layered to an interesting look with almost full opacity with 4 or  more coats. These pictures are with 3 coats, had to take them fast as the sun was almost down. This, like most sparkle top coats, dried very quickly. The multi-coloured sparkles are much more evident in person, I can see this complementing many shades! Very twinkly! I think I would especially like this over a dark blue, in Essie Starry Starry Night style..
