Autumn Leaves – A Neutral NOTD!

autumn_nails

Hi! Today’s rushed NOTD I went with a neutral palette of beige and bronze for some leaf stamp art. I used Sally Hansen Bare It All, Essie Summit of Style and Avon Glimmer. I had some trouble with Bare It All. The brush held on to a lot of product and the formula was thin, making application a bit tricky. Good thing it’s a forgiving nude. I also had some trouble capturing the leaf stamps in a photograph due to the pale tones. I’d wait for sun for a better shot, but there’s none in the forecast so these will have to do! Overall it’s a bit too subdued for my taste even with the glitter. I’ll mix it up with the occasional neutral like this but I love my darks and brights! Some pics in crappy lighting because that’s all we get here in Vancouver now! On the upside (?) I guess I’ve accidentally found my mannequin hands nude!

Essie Shearling Darling, Sally Hansen Go For Gold NOTD!

Essie Shearling Darling, Sally Hansen Go For Gold

Essie Shearling Darling, Sally Hansen Go For Gold

Pushing autumn a little bit with this one, but I love darker reddish shades no matter what time of year. Today’s stamping experiment is with Sally Hansen Go For Gold atop Essie Shearling Darling.

Shearling Darling applied nicely, and I like it a bit more than Essie Carry On which is a pretty close counterpart (but not a dupe.) I like using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri for stamping, however one caveat with Go For Gold – when you apply a top coat – or at least when I apply my HG top coat NYC Grand Central – it fades the gold considerably. So to get around this, as I still like the effect of the gold, is to put it over top the top coat. Not ideal, but it’s an ok workaround.  Go For Gold is a paler gold, it even looks like it’s got some silver shimmer to it. Shearling Darling is a brown leaning autumnal burgundy. I used a floral stamp print, I think they might be poppies.

I’d like to try this or a similar combination again soon with one of the leaf/leaves stamp plates I have, think it would be nice for fall.

Sinful Colors Sail La Vie Swatch, Daliah Stamp Nail Art

Sinful Colors Sail La Vie, Essie After School Boy Blazer

Sinful Colors Sail La Vie, Essie After School Boy Blazer

Today’s experiment in nail art stamping will be done with Sinful Colors Sail La Vie, and Essie After School Boy Blazer which I thought for sure I had swatched & reviewed already, but it appears I haven’t. It’s an ultra dark slightly dusty navy. Sinful Colors Sail La Vie is a nice cool, crisp medium blue, with a touch of barely perceptible shimmer in the bottle which doesn’t seem to translate to the nail. First coat is patchy, but a second thick coat evens everything up nicely. I love this kind of cool shade with my skin tone. Swatches below.

I followed up 2 coats of Sail La Vie with a stamp of a dahlia flower print, using Essie After School Boy Blazer for a blue tone on tone effect. I’m still working out how to not be sloppy with the stamping as it’s so new to me, but I liked the result!

Will have to try this stamp again with some kind of pink/red/purple combo. I love dahlias! Have a great weekend!

Essie Toggle to the Top NOTD!

Found this pretty one at the Dollarama, lucky me! Went on well with 2 coats, but has a matte leaning finish, with a bit of texture from the glitter. I also found (as i do with certain larger glitter formulas) that it had a slightly greyish cast to it once dry, which I mostly mitigated with 2 thick clear coats. Swatches!

Coral with Gold & White Buttons NOTD!

Hi there! This weekend’s overly rushed manicure is with Essie Sunday Funday, Avon Glimmer, and mystery white polish! How are you guys? I need some sleep. My neighbours are night-owls with iron shoes.

Gold and Coral Nails with Essie polishes NOTD

Essie Sunday Funday, As Gold As It Gets

Essie Sunday Funday, As Gold As It Gets

Today’s pretty NOTD uses two Essie nail polishes I like very much,  and have shown before separately, Sunday Funday and As Gold As It Gets! I wanted a bright, summery look with a bit of shimmer and this is the result.

First 2-3 coats of Essie Sunday Funday, then a layer of Essie As Gold As It Gets, which I am liking on top of everything these days. I have already done a separate review on Essie Sunday Funday here along with a test of my new nail dotter!

This held up really well for a couple of days which is impressive for me.

Beautiful Day Blue and Gold NOTD, Revlon Colorstay Blue Slate Swatch & Review

Revlon Blue Slate, Essie As Gold As It Gets

Revlon Blue Slate, Essie As Gold As It Gets

More blue nails! Surprise! This Revlon polish is one that I have had a long while, and is a favourite, so of course it’s discontinued. Revlon Colorstay Blue Slate is a perfect, slightly greyed out medium blue. The shade is neutral enough you can get away wearing it in more circumstances than other shades of blue. I even once wore this to an interview where the shade was an exact match to their company logo. I’m certain no one noticed.

Although I could get away with one coat, two looks more perfect and even. The blue is a perfect creme formula, smooth, even, and fast drying. I painted on two coats of the Blue Slate, and then a layer of the lovely and versatile Essie As Gold As It Gets. Some pictures in different lights!

These two together reminded me of blue, sunshiney skies. The formulas together hold up well for a couple of days without chips. If you can find this shade anywhere, I really recommend it as a staple in your nail wardrobe if you like blue as much as I do!

Have a great week!

Revlon Colorstay Provence NOTD Swatch & Review!

Revlon Provence

Revlon Provence

I used the sky as my backdrop for this bottle of polish, what an amazing colour! Was a gorgeous day so I had to take advantage of it. It did make the shade in the bottle look greyer than it actually is, however.

The first of the newer incarnation of Revlon Colorstay nail enamels (my favourite) that I purchased was this one, Provence. It wasn’t recently, it was some time ago as it is sadly now discontinued. Thankfully it is still usable. Now that I think of it, I still have some of the first versions of the Revlon Colorstay polishes that are still usable, remember when they came in a duo pack with a topcoat? Those. I have a bunch of those still. How long have I had these, 10 years? 15?

Revlon Provence is a pale, greyed out lavender shade. It has just enough purple in it to see that there’s a colour there, but still subtle and neutral enough for even the most conservative of venues. It is sheer and streaky in one coat, but evens out nicely with two coats. Dry time is a little longer with this one as it stays tacky for a while. Swatches below are with no topcoat. Still pretty shiny without it, I think.

And I can’t help myself with topcoats, I added a layer of Essie As Gold As It Gets and then another of Revlon Colorstay Calla Lily for a bit of faint shimmer to add some depth and interest.

It’s more of a spring shade rather than summer, but I think it’s something nice and light for the super hot days we’ve been having here lately!

Enjoy your week!

Essie Sunday Funday NOTD Swatch & Review, Dotting Experiment!

Essie Sunday Funday

Essie Sunday Funday

Today’s nails of the day is Essie Sunday Funday! It’s a bright, pretty, orange leaning coral with a light amount of white shimmery flecks throughout. Perfect for a glisteny, juicy, summery look! It’s gorgeous, I have no idea how it stayed on the shelves long enough to make it to the discounter I found it at. It applied beautifully and drying time seemed pretty good! I wanted to try out my new dotting tool on top of this shade, and here is 2 coats swatched, no topcoat!

Essie Sunday Funday

Essie Sunday Funday

For the dotting, I used NYC Park Ave, Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam, NYC Water Street Blue (stunning on it’s own as well, but stains) and of course that’s Sunday Funday on the far right.

Final result close up on thumb. I also did my ring finger, I think more might have been overkill. I think I might need a more opaque white, or a bigger dotter as I had some issues making the white dot even but overall I do like the look! I’m really enjoying this little tool 🙂

Sparkling Peach NOTD with Essie & Essence!

Essie As Gold As it Gets, Essence Modern Romance, Essie Shine Of The Times

Essie As Gold As it Gets, Essence Modern Romance, Essie Shine Of The Times

I wanted something cheerful, sunny, summery and warm today, so I present to you my Sparkling Peach nails of the day! It sounds like a cocktail!

Used in this look are:

-Essence Colour & Go in 110 Modern Romance, a peachy hued quick drying nail polish

-Essie Lux Effects Shine Of The Times, a top coat duo-chrome flakie glitter polish, looks green to gold to a coppery red depending on light

-Essie Lux Effects As Gold As It Gets a top coat flakie, super loaded with golden flakes of pretty glitter

I first layered on 2 coats of the Essence Modern Romance peach shade. I really like this colour alone, it takes 3 coats for full opacity however. After the peachy base, I couldn’t decide on which flakie glitter to put over top so of course I used both! I really like the result. I tried to take in a variety of light/angles but no picture shows how pretty it looks in person.  Here’s a ton of pictures! I hope they brighten up your day as they did mine!
